Sean Surman DVM, MS, DACVIM is a board certified veterinary internal medicine specialist. Dr. Surman completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University of Ohio and went on to earn his veterinary degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation he completed a rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital, and a combined internal medicine residency / masters degree program at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following his residency he joined the faculty at the University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia where he headed the internal medicine clinic for 3 years. Following this he returned to Ohio and has practiced specialty internal medicine at numerous referral hospitals in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Hawaii. He currently practices internal medicine, performs diagnostics such as ultrasound / endoscopy, and assists with management of the ICU at Central Ohio Veterinary Emergency and Specialty. He also travels to numerous clinics around Columbus and the surrounding areas to perform ultrasounds and help primary care veterinarians manage complex cases.
Dr. Surman has authored and co-authored several manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and books. He has extensive experience in management of acute and chronic diseases affecting the urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, endocrine system, hepatobiliary system, and hematologic / immunologic system. Additionally he has extensive experience in endoscopy and ultrasound. Being part of an expert team that helps critically or chronically ill patients return to health and lead long happy lives is the most rewarding part of his job.
